There’s something about slow-cooked BBQ pork that just feels like comfort food at its best. This recipe takes that classic, tender pulled pork and gives it a seasonal twist by serving it on fluffy homemade biscuits with a touch of pumpkin or apple butter. The result is a dish that’s hearty, slightly sweet and full of fall flavor—all with minimal effort thanks to the crockpot. Perfect for game day, a laid-back dinner or just when you want something that tastes like fall without spending all day in the kitchen.
Don’t be afraid of the pumpkin or apple butter—it might sound a little odd, but it adds just the right touch of fall harvest to balance out the tangy BBQ.
Alternatives:
Meat – you can make these sliders with pork shoulder, brisket, chicken breast or even shitaki or oyster mushrooms for a vegetarian alternative
Biscuit – you don’t have to use my easy fluffy homemade biscuits! You can serve these on Hawaiian rolls, ciabatta rolls, crescent rolls or potato rolls
Tips:
- The pork is done when it’s juicy and tender and easily pulls apart with two forks right in the crockpot.
- I love these sliders with simple meat, BBQ sauce and butter, but you can have fun with the toppings! Coleslaw, fresh apple slices or caramelized onions
- Feeling creative? Try making your own apple butter or pumpkin butter from scratch.
What You’ll Need
Your Favorite Bottled BBQ Sauce (I would go with an original or slightly spicy sauce so that the sweetness of the butter is balanced out)
Ingredients:
2-3 lb pork shoulder
Bottled BBQ sauce
Store-bought biscuits or my homemade Quick and Easy Biscuits
Directions:
- Place the pork shoulder and BBQ sauce in your crockpot on low and cook for at least 6 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent the sauce from burning. The pork is done when it’s tender and easily pulls apart with two forks.
- Carefully shred the meat directly in the crockpot (it will be hot!) and toss it in the sauce to coat. Let the pork sit shredded in the crockpot to absorb the sauce while you prep your biscuits.
- Bake store-bought biscuits according to the package directions—or follow my homemade recipe if you’re making them from scratch.
- Spread each biscuit with pumpkin or apple butter, then pile on the shredded BBQ pork. For extra saucy goodness, drizzle extra BBQ sauce on top of meat before serving.
These BBQ pork sliders are proof that comfort food can be easy, flavorful and a little bit fun.
